About

Welcome To My Blog!

Hi! I’m Allison – a.k.a. The Millennial Seeker. This is mostly because I’m:

a) a millennial in terms of my generational “label”

b) a HUGE J.K. Rowling fan who thinks being a Seeker in the Harry Potter sense would be pretty awesome – especially the flying part!

On a more serious note, though, the name of my blog also describes who I am as a person. You’ll soon see what I mean.

Here are a few not-so-secret secrets about me to get you started:

I’m a coffee addict.

A Tim Hortons double-double is my staple, but I’ll drink just about anything – so long as it looks and smells like coffee. For me, coffee basically equals happiness.

I love to travel.

I spend a lot of time thinking about travel, daydreaming about when and to which country my next trip might be, and scanning Pinterest for anything and everything travel-related to add to my boards. Admittedly, I’m a bit of a Pinterest addict as well.

I view life as an adventure.

There are so many opportunities to discover, learn, and grow in life if we are open-minded and actively seek them. I believe life is about gaining new experiences. It’s about trying new things and challenging ourselves to be the best we can be, and to add value to this world.

What You’ll Find Here

This blog is where I share my journey – my thoughts, questions, realizations, experiences, and struggles with you. My hope is that they’ll entertain, inspire, or encourage you in your own journey.

If I come across a quote I love, meet someone I find interesting, do something enlightening, read a book or article I really connect with, or have a magical adventure at home or abroad, you can bet that it will end up on my blog in one form or another. Being the introvert I am, these personal reflections are how I tend to understand and process the world around me.

I typically write 2 new blog posts per week, which can be delivered to you via email so you won’t miss a thing.

I’m constantly looking for ways to improve myself and to live a more fulfilling and meaningful life, and that’s often what inspires my writing.

This blog is for you if:

  • You’re a dreamer
  • You believe life should be about more than paying bills and dying
  • Your general curiosity is insatiable
  • You view life as an adventure and want to experience and learn all you can
  • You value personal growth and self-discovery

Okay….But Who Is This Person?

I grew up on a farm in the middle of what I like to call “nowhere” Ontario – outside the small town of Woodville, about an hour and a half north of Toronto.

My background is in journalism and human rights; two fields that I still envision being a part of my future somehow (though maybe not in ways I had originally imagined).

Writing, however, is my real passion. I’ve been writing in different capacities for many years, but only recently decided to get more serious about it. Starting this blog is one of the results of that decision. In the past, I’ve written a blog series for Verge Magazine about my experiences teaching in Korea, program guides for Go Overseas, and a host of other articles I haven’t yet shared.

Since graduating from university a few years ago, I’ve been all over the place and up to a wide variety of things – including living and working abroad, reading voraciously, trying to figure out how to earn a living on my own terms (preferably without trading my soul), and discovering more about myself through yoga, meditation, and a number of online courses.

I typically spend half of each year helping make weddings and other things happen at the beautiful Sir William Mackenzie Inn, and the other half trying to figure out what to do with that half. Usually it involves some freelance work from home, some traveling, a lot of reading, and more recently, a lot of writing. Some things it definitely involves are general daydreaming, brainstorming and making big plans for the future.
